We're looking for an exceptional IT Support Engineer to help us make a difference to our planet.

As our IT Support Engineer the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work.

    Your key duties

    • Providing exceptional customer experience and service, to internal Met Office staff.
    • Training & Continued professional development both on the job & with dedicated training time & paid qualifications.
    • Proactively reviewing the Incident and Task queues and taking ownership of support requests.
    • Supporting modern Windows desktop, hardware lifecycle, M365, and wider aspects of End user computing in the Met Office
    • Administering and updating policies, procedures, and support documentation
    • Show an awareness of developing process efficiency and common ways in which processes are optimised.
    • Autonomy in provision of support and working under routine direction with limited discretion.

      We operate an on-call roster in Technology to provide 24/ 7/ 365 support to respond to operational service requirements. This post may be part of an on-call roster and the postholder would be required to participate in an on-call roster where in operation. This IT Support Engineer role is aligned to End User Computing Engineer - Government Digital and Data Profession Capability Framework (ddat-capability-framework.service.gov.uk)

      As our IT Support Engineer, your total reward package will be up to £39,976 annually, which includes:

      • £26,954 base pay
      • An outstanding Civil Service pension, with an average employer contribution of 27%
      • Recruitment Retention Allowance (RRA) you will be paid £2,200 per annum as a market supplement to reflect the demand for your skills. Whilst in post, you will be paid this market driven allowance from April 2024 until September 2025 in your monthly pay
      • Annual Leave starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 32.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years and option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual leave

        Essential Criteria, skills and experience:

        1. Expert by nature - An understanding of supporting hardware, software, and operating systems in a modern Enterprise environment, with examples of your experience in at least four of the following technical domains: -ITSM Tool usage for Incident Management, and working in an ITIL framework. -Microsoft Operating Systems support (Windows 10,11 or Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022) -Hardware installation and support (Laptop builds & upgrades, Mobile Devices, Printers) -Active Directory tools (ADUC, Group Policy, AD Object Management / OU's / Entra ID) -Software management and support (Package, deploy and lifecycle of software, i.e. SCCM, InTune) -Asset management & lifecycle, maintaining secure configuration and accurate information & controlling IT assets -Microsoft 365 & modern desktop management - M365, Intune, Defender, Teams PSTN

        2. Keep evolving - Logical, methodical, and with excellent attention to detail. Fast learner with an aptitude for quickly understanding and solving technical problems unaided. Knows when to seek help when problems requires assistance and/ or no direct progress is being made (i.e. triage/ escalation).

        3. Better together - Can work broadly independently and collaboratively both in troubleshooting/ support and also when undertaking project work. Ensures deadlines are met without sacrificing quality, this requires Ownership & initiative whilst maintaining the user and service focus that drives our team.

        4. Live and breathe it - Good communication skills are a must as this is a customer facing technology role. Confidence in using multi-channel communication means (Phone, IM, E-Mail). Enthusiasm for technology & keeping up to date with changes in the wider tech field. Ownership of Incidents and Tasks, driven, and delivery focused.
